If it’s not one thing, it’s a broken truck window

That’s right, a broken truck window. Thankfully it’s not broken as in broken glass no window remaining, but broken in the sense that after putting the window down it would no longer go up.

We are less than 2 weeks out from our move, of course this would happen to us now. Tom and I spent almost 2 hours outside yesterday trying to figure out why it stopped working. We finally resorted to the fact that he couldn’t fix it and he would drive the truck to work to bring to a service center. He dropped it off at AA this morning and 20 minutes later they quoted him $575 to fix it plus the $40 diagnostic fee. I texted Kyle to update him on the situation and he wrote back that we were being screwed. Nice. So he says to find out from some parts places how much the parts we needed were. In the meantime, Tom went to pay the diagnostic fee and pick up the truck and the price went from $575 to $660.

The Ford dealership quoted $133 for the window motor and $175 for the regulator. They also quoted us $135 for labor. Kyle also suggested trying a salvage yard, so we got out the phone book and started making phone calls. After calling 5 or 6 places, one place down Rte 1 had one. The cost to get it, $125. So we ran out to pick it up, after waiting for awhile, Tom purchased the motor and regulator, for $111, after a military discount. :) Love places that do that. They gave us nearly the entire inside portion of the door, handle and 6×9 speaker included. lol ;)

We got home and Tom figured he would take it to work tomorrow since they probably had a special star shaped screwdriver he could use. After we got back we went through Tom’s clothes and he set aside a pile of stuff and offered it to a guy he works with, he said he wanted it and would be by to pick it up. When he stopped by he offered to help Tom try to get it together because he brought his star screwdriver set. So, they spent almost 4 hours outside working on it. By the time Eric, his wife & little girl left, the window worked!!

We just saved ourselves about $500 and we are so happy. It took some work and some time, but it’s working and we didn’t have to spend $700 to get it fixed.

Tie [2-2]

Tommy played his last soccer game this morning. His team is getting much better, they actually tied the game! Tommy played much better this time. We meant to bring the video camera, but didn’t think to check it last night to see if it needed to be charged. So, it was dead when we remembered it this morning. Then we forgot to bring the camera. Oh, well. He’ll go to practice on Monday and Wednesday next week and that will be it for soccer for him here in VA.

This afternoon we took advantage of the nice weather and finished up some yard work. Now we are just crossing our fingers that it won’t rain alot in the next two weeks so that we don’t need to mess with it anymore. We need to get the lawnmower cleaned up and drained of the oil & gas before it can go on the moving truck.

Tomorrow we plan on grocery shopping, painting the upstairs and some more cleaning. It’ll be tons of fun.
